Holy Baptism is the Rite of Initiation into the Christian Church, and is available to all people of any age who have not been previously baptised. Baptisms are generally performed during the main service of the week (in our case, at 10:30 on Sunday mornings), as baptisms are seen as the method of entering into a large family, and we want to welcome our new family member together. The actual baptism usually takes place through the process known as "Affusion", that is, pouring water over the forehead three times, as the historic formula of "I baptise you in the Name of the Father, the Name of the Son, and the Name of the Holy Spirit" is recited.
Baptism is more than simply providing "baby" with a name (that would be a "christening"), and does involve promises and responsibilities, whether for the parents and the at least 2 godparents of younger folk or the adults and young adults being baptised. Because this is true, there is a process of preparation that must be undertaken, whether by parents and hopefully godparents of infants and children being brought for baptisms or by teenagers and adults who themselves are wishing to be baptised. Please contact the rector for more information.
The Anglican church recognizes the baptisms of other denominations where that historic formula is used, and so there is no requirement that people be baptised a second time, and those who have been baptised in that manner are welcome to participate in the Holy Eucharist.
The Next Service of Baptism will be held April 8th, 2023, during the Great Easter Vigil
Public Baptisms generally occur approximately 4 times in any given year, although sometimes of necessity additional services might be added. The usual dates for baptisms is at Eastertime, at Pentecost (late Spring), near All Saints' Day (early November), and the Sunday after the Epiphany (in January) Please contact the rector at the number noted below for upcoming dates.
